Day 22 – Cardio Training

Scripture Reading

2 Timothy 3:15b-17 (MSG)
15 … There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. 17 Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

So far in our discussion of Getting Dressed in the armor of God, we have said that Truth and Righteousness give us integrity. Peace and Faith give us Courage. Today we are going to look at Ephesians 6:17

Ephesians 6:17 (NIV)
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

and how salvation and the Word intersect at …

1. Real Life

Real life, now and forever. Check out this verse:

1 Peter 1:3-4 (MSG)
3 What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, 4 including a future in heaven—and the future starts now!

This real life all starts when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior.

Which is the…

2. The hope of salvation

1 Thessalonians 5:8 (NIV)
8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Putting on the hope of salvation as a helmet. The helmet of salvation guards our heads from attacks on our thinking. Because of the hope of salvation we have in Christ, our perspective changes. We are no longer consumed by our own small selfish viewpoint of life but we can begin to see the bigger picture. We will live with Him forever and that life begins now.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV)
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Though we live in the world, we don’t wage ware as the world does. We are not to get our perspective from the culture, but from the living God. We undergo a transformation in our minds that it is made possible through the

3. The Word (Sword of the Spirit)

Rather than be consumed by the fear being spewed by our culture, we need to focus our thoughts on the Kingdom of God and the things of the Lord.

Romans 12:2 (NIV)
2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Don’t be conformed to the pattern of this world but be changed by the renewing of your mind. Our mind is renewed by the sword of the Spirit

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)
12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Standing with Jesus, as His disciples, living where salvation and the word intersect, is where we experience real life. Life with a purpose, eternal life with Him that starts now.
